Coriander - an ancient herb!
When buying the Greek Basil I couldn't resist a punnet of six Coriander plants. It's been used by the Egyptians and Greeks for thousands of years. The Chinese believed it conferred immortality and it was also used as an aphrodisiac in the Middle Ages of Europe!
It has a unique spicy flavour and is a standard in Middle Eastern curries. The leaves are soft and delicate. The seeds can be picked green and chewed as a digestive aid or left to dry brown and then picked and kept in an airtight jar and added to soups and stews.
I've used an African beaded basket for all six plants and then contained it in a handcrafted wood-fired pottery bowl from my old friend and master potter Jonathan Blumberg.
